Sun Nuclear  today announced that the Santa Creu i Sant Pau Hospital has been incorporated as an associated reference center for the SunCHECK ™ quality control platform . The hospital now joins other major centers around the world that are part of the SunCHECK Associated Reference Centers program and will focus on leveraging SunCHECK's traffic automation and dosimetry functions to strengthen risk control and improve effectiveness. of its radiotherapy quality control program.

The implantation of SunCHECK in the hospital will be done under the direction of the renowned European medical physicist Núria Jornet, doctor in medical physics and former president of the physics committee of ESTRO (the European Society of Radiation Oncology). Each year, the center treats 2000 new patients in a total of 4 linear accelerators with a team of 9 medical physicists, 3 resident medical physicists and 8 dosimetrists.

The Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau has been using in vivo dosimetry for almost 20 years with spot detectors in its clinical routine with all patients. Upon transition to dosimetry in vivo with IMRT, VMAT and SBRT, the use of point detectors became too complex. The hospital sought a solution that would provide useful information to the changes that occurred in each fraction of the treatment, in order to continue offering an efficient additional protection network to the treatments of its patients. At the same time, the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau wanted to consolidate several tools and software for equipment CC within its department. To meet these needs, the hospital implemented the SunCHECK platform.

SunCHECK, which enjoys the trust of users from hundreds of centers around the world, is an integrated and automated quality control platform that helps standardize the workflows of patient and equipment QC among staff, equipment and in all locations. The SunCHECK Patient module comprises all the parts of the patient quality control and includes from the plan verifications, the secondary checks, the pre-treatment quality control and the in vivo monitoring . The SunCHECK Machine module integrates all equipment quality control requirements, including a practical daily, monthly and annual template-based QC, automated image acquisition, MLC and VMAT quality control, and data trend tracing.

«The evolution of SunCHECK, which now includes traffic dosimetry, is in line with our mission of guaranteeing the safest and most optimized treatments for our patients. In addition, the better we are able to rationalize the CC of the equipment, the more time we can devote to the treatment of our patients and to implement new techniques, ”said Núria Jornet, principal advisor and doctor of the Department of Medical Physics at the Hospital de la Santa Creu Sant Pau.

As an associated reference center, the hospital will assist in the development of best practices for clinical use, advise on the continuous development of products and act as a resource in the region for the rapidly growing community of SunCHECK users.

"We are very pleased that a center as respected as the Hospital of Santa Creu and Sant Pau becomes a SunCHECK associated reference center," said Jeff Simon , CEO of Sun Nuclear. «Dr. Jornet and her team are leaders in Europe in terms of best quality assurance practices of radiotherapy. Your contributions on the use of SunCHECK aimed at strengthening risk control will be of great value to other radiotherapy departments that are considering following this same path ».
