One of the UAE’s biggest ground-mounted private solar plant has just recently started producing renewable energy at Middle East's Al Maha factory of Nestlé in Dubai.

The inauguration of this biggest plant in Dubai had taken place within the presence of Dr. Franco Vigliotti (Project Head as well as Dean of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne in the Middle East), HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer (MD & CEO of the Dubai Electricity as well as Water Authority), HE Massimo Baggi (Ambassador of Switzerland to the UAE & Bahrain), HE Khalifa Al Zaffin (Executive Chairman-Dubai Aviation City Corporation and South Dubai), Marco Settembri (Executive VP of Nestlé S.A. as well as Zonal CEO in Europe, North Africa & Middle East and Yves Manghardt (Chair-man & CEO of Nestlé Middle East).

The plant site at Al Maha would be housing up to 20,000 PV (photovoltaic) panels that will generate around 7.2GWh electricity every year. Also, will be supplying almost 85 percent of the factory’s electricity consumption of Al Maha annually along with eliminating approx. 4.5 million kilograms of CO2 yearly.

Altogether, approximately 28,000 PV panels are getting fitted at 3 manufacturing units of Nestlé within Dubai. The systems would be capable of generating an overall electricity of 10GWh per year. That might even lessen emission of almost 6 million kilograms of CO2 per annum that is equal to the annual emissions from nearly 1,500 passenger cars or even the energy consumption of at least 800 households.

In addition, 1/3rd of 413 Nestlé’s factories across the globe have already been utilizing 100 percent renewable electricity. Also, the organization is anticipating to amplify the usage of renewable energy sources.

Moreover, regional factories of Nestlé has ever since the year 2010 attained the reduction of almost 42 per cent in water withdrawal per ton of the product, around 34 percent reduction within energy consumption as well as approx. 28 percent lessening within the greenhouse gas emissions for each ton of the product, whereas its production accelerated by almost 68 percent. As a result the organization produces its products food manufacturing units within the Middle East with zero waste for dumping.
