Harbor Branch Researcher Partner with USDA to Favor the Growth of Aquaculture Industry in the U.S
The Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute has received approximately $2.4 million from the USDA to work in partnership with the USDA scientist that will support the growth of aquaculture in the US. US has been the largest importer of seafood products in the world that results in approximately 14 billion trade deficit. According to the Harbor Branch researchers, more than 50 percent of the consumed seafood comes from agriculture and as a matter of fact, less than 1 percent of it is produced in the US. The researchers in this project would be focused on developing a foundation for the most efficient ways to produce Red Drum and Pompano and would work on developing novel technologies that would ensure a steady supply of warm water marine fish seed stocks that would be useful for commercial production.
